It is very difficult, but that has more to do about the advertising industry and societal values. Try blackhairmedia.com, real women post their own pictures of the hair styles they have tried.

You can try the following...go to Google, select Images in the upper left...and then search for: African American hairstyles or haircuts, even more specific like braids, dreadlocks, etc. Lots of cool stuff comes up.
There are also lots of hair style magazines specifically for African American hair.
